Gateway to Affordable Time Building
The Club
Crew Rest Flying Club is a social and recreational non-equity flying club founded to provide the most affordable time building solution for military members (Active, Reserve, Guard, and retired). Civilians without a military affiliation are also welcome. Members do not own a share in the club aircraft as part of a non-equity club, significantly reducing the investment needed to get started in General Aviation. Membership dues cover the maintenance, insurance, leasing of the club aircraft, and rental of the facilities. The minimum membership period is six months. We hangar and operate at Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport (KPHF).

Our Champ is $50 an hour dry, which covers our lease for aircraft use and maintenance
Members buy their own fuel and ensure tanks are 3/4 full post flight, allowing them to utilize cheaper fuel from across the region
Our Aircraft
Crew Rest Flying Club operates a leased 1958 Champion Tri-Traveler which was fully restored in 2019. This aircraft is powered by a Continental C-90 and is day/night VFR compliant. It has a 3+ hour endurance carrying 23 gallons of gas and a 540 lb useful load. The Tri-Traveler is a tandem 2-seat aircraft which is easy to fly, burns between 4.5-6.0 gallons an hour, and cruises at 105 mph.

Pilot Eligibility
Pilots seeking membership must be citizens of the United States, have a minimum of 100 hours total time, possess at least a FAA private pilot’s certificate and valid FAA class 3 medical or military equivalent IAW FAR 61.23.B.11, and demonstrate proficiency in the operation of single engine fixed aircraft.

Scheduling
Facilities
Members may schedule up to 3 events at a time, up to 3 months in advance, for up to 3 hours at a time. Extended duration flight periods are permitted provided that no other members seek to use the aircraft on a given day.
We rent a standard tee hangar at Newport News - Williamsburg Airport. Fuel is available through the local FBO's. Due to commercial carrier operations, members are required to complete and abide by KPHF security screening, training, and badging ($110 one time fee).

Once your application is accepted, we will start you in the badging process, which may take a few weeks. Once completed, you'll be checked out and your membership will begin. We look forward to flying with you soon!
